2020 SDG PIONEER NIGERIA WINNER IS TOBI OYEWOLE!
“We are excited to support and value the young professionals’ efforts to find innovative solutions to today’s global challenges. Being a leader in the 2030 era means working concretely for change, choosing to create the future rather than waiting for it to happen while sitting still.”
– Lise KINGO, Former CEO and Executive Director, United Nations Global Compact.
Tobi Oyewole, Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility Analyst at The Nigerian Stock Exchange, has emerged as the winner of the 2020 SDG Pioneer (Nigeria) Award!
The UNGC SDGs Pioneers competition Award is part of the “Making Global Goals Local Business” campaign launched globally by Global Compact in 2015, following the adoption by the United Nations of 17 SDGs for the year 2030. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of sustainable development among all economic, social and political stakeholders and to promote the greatest possible commitment to urgent challenges such as hunger, poverty and climate change.
The award aims to promote business professionals who have distinguished themselves by an extraordinary commitment to the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the course of discharging their various organizational roles.
A total of seventeen (17) persons applied for the program, from various organizations.
Following the internal shortlisting of 5 candidates, the external review was conducted by a high-powered panel, comprising of GCNN Board Members, Mrs. Soromidayo George and Mrs. Uto Ukpanah, Mr. Femi Taiwo (representing Civil Society), Prof. Chris Ogbechie of the Lagos Business School (Academia), and Mr. Babatunde Abidoye of the UNDP; at the end of which, Mr. Tobi Oyewole of the Nigerian Stock Exchange emerged as the winner.
Tobi’s work was an integral part of the broader strategic and action plan on sustainability, carried out by The NSE, a longstanding member of the UN Global Compact. The candidacy presented by the company sufficiently demonstrated how a young resource can significantly contribute to the success of an organization on crucial and strategic issues.
As the winner of the national round, Tobi Oyewole will participate in the global competition where he will challenge other candidates to try winning the title of UN Global Compact SDG Pioneer 2020. Global winners will be announced at the United Nations General Assembly in New York during the Leaders Summit, to be held later in 2021.
