West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference, WACEE

The UN Global Compact Network Nigeria collaborated on the West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference, held on 7 and 8 March 2026, and hosted a stand on the exhibition floor across both days of the event.

WACEE brings together clean energy and environmental businesses, regulators, financiers and technical partners from across West Africa and international markets. It is one of the few platforms in the region where the commercial and the policy sides of the environmental agenda sit in the same room, which makes it a natural setting for the Network’s work on mobilising private sector action.

The Network participated in a panel session titled Transforming WASH Challenges into Investment Opportunities. Water, sanitation and hygiene sits awkwardly in most markets. It is treated as a public service obligation and a development burden far more often than it is treated as an investable sector, and that framing has consequences for how much capital reaches it.

The session engaged stakeholders on innovative approaches to turning WASH challenges into viable investment opportunities, and on the sustainable financing models capable of supporting them at scale. The discussion sat within the wider conversation at the conference on private sector engagement in advancing WASH solutions across West Africa.

The trade fair also served as a direct outreach platform. The exhibition audience, made up largely of operating companies in the clean energy and environment space, matches the profile of organisations the Network works with, and the team used the two days to engage prospective organisations and invite them to join and participate in the UN Global Compact Network Nigeria.
